You guys, my birthday is on Saturday, and I will officially be entering the last year of my twenties. Although I’m a little freaked out that my following birthday will be my 30th, I’ve realized that I fit the stereotype of 30 more than I do of 21.
To cope with the age change, I’ve decided to write a list of “29 Reasons I’m Fading Out Of My Twenties“ and embracing what’s to come.
1. Bedtime is 10 p.m. Rarely do I stay out past midnight.
2. I am buzzed after one drink. 4 glasses of wine and I’m toast.
3. I am just as fine with staying in and cooking a nice dinner rather than going out.
4. I have learned a lot about what I want in life. It’s much easier for me to make the tough decisions now than when I was entering my twenties.
5. I am a decade closer to retirement. The glass is half full, right?
6. I’ve stopped giving a shit what people think. My life may not be conventional in terms of moving around and the fact I haven’t bought a house yet, but frankly, I’m enjoying the adventure that I’m experiencing.
7. Your friend group gets smaller, but that’s okay. 8 years ago I had a group of 20 solid friends. Today, I have my close nit of girls I can count on for anything. It’s about quality vs. quantity.
8. I am okay with the thought of starting a family. I went through phases of “hell no, not yet!” to “I wouldn’t be mad if it happened by accident.” Now I’m okay with planning that part of my life.
9. Buying household items is just as fun as getting new clothes. Seriously, I get super excited to hang out in TJ Maxx HomeGoods.
10. Hangovers last two, sometimes three days. It’s miserable and every time I swear off ever drinking again.
11. My metabolism feels like it’s that of a 60-year-old compared to when I was 21. I mean, I eat a piece of lettuce and gain 5 lbs.
12. Speaking of metabolism, I now budget my calories. (If I eat a salad for lunch, I can totally have a bottle of wine tonight…)
13. I get so much done on the weekends. I wasn’t kidding when I said I go to sleep every night around 10 or 11. The positive part is that it allows me to get up at 8 a.m. on Saturdays and actually have a day! So many activities… and errands!
14. Jazz Clubs > Night Clubs
15. You’d think I was a grandma with the number of pills I have to take daily for my vestibular disorder. I literally have a pill case, and it’s packed full.
16. Nights in playing video or board games with my husband are something I look forward to during the week.
17. We also do puzzles.
18. I still want to get glammed up for a night out, but I feel-out my husband to see if it’s going to be one of those dinner and drinks nights that ends with us being home by 8 p.m. (I don’t want to waste my expensive makeup, okay!)
19. It’s more rewarding having a drink by myself while working on my content projects than stressing about making it to a happy hour with randos.
20. My weight fluctuates, but I’m more concerned about getting to my goal weight so I don’t balloon up when I decide to have kids rather than just being hot.
21. I’m living in my fourth big city, and my criteria for making friends has become longer. I’m looking for the “Friends” friends.
22. I put movie premieres I’m looking forward to on my calendar. (Meg comes out this weekend in case anyone is interested.)
23. I refuse to shop at places such as Forever 21 or H&M. It doesn’t help that the clothes are made to fit toddlers. Hello, I have hips now!
24. I can actually afford brands I love and not put it on the credit card i.e. Tory Burch. (duh!)
25. I’m stressing out and am clueless about my facial regimen. All I know is that it matters now.
26. If I sit in a weird position my legs or hips start to cramp. It also takes about 5 mins to shake it out.
27. I relate more now to my parents than in the past.
28. I look forward to practical gifts on birthdays and Christmas, rather than frivolous stuff.
29. Although I still love childish things and will sometimes reminisce about my college days, I’m loving where I’m at in my career, relationships and know that the best is yet to come.
Cheers to another year around the sun!
I’m excited to live out the last year of my twenties to the fullest!

August 6, 2018Wearing a sports bra or bralette is a daily occurance. If I have to put a regular one on, I mean business and I’m also thinking about how many hours I have until I can take it off.
